Bearded Tit
This is a great time of year to spot these normally elusive birds calling and flying from the reed beds before their autumn dispersal or irruption phase. Also known as Bearded Reedlings, they are not really part of the Tit family being more closely related to Skylarks. They change their diet during winter from invertebrates to seeds as the food supplies change with the seasons. Windless sunny days are the best times to see them in the reed tops.
Conservation status: Green.
